Happy memory jars
As I mentioned in my first felt food post, I just love killing time on Pinterest, searching for inspiration for projects for our home, or gifts to make for friends.
At the time of this writing, I've pinned over 1,800 images on Pinterest! (Procrastinate much?) And I've only actually followed through on a few of the great ideas I've captured there. But I have to say that the "happy memories jars" that I made during the holidays are probably my favorite Pinterest find so far.
I've seen a particular memory jar image pinned and posted all over the internet, and I think this is the original source. Once I saw this idea, I knew it was something I wanted us to do this year, and I thought a couple of our friends might enjoy having a memory jar, too.
As you can see above, I started them off with a mason jar filled with various kinds of Hershey kisses. (Nothing sets you up for a happy new year like chocolate, right?)
Next, I found some sweet memory-themed stamps, and stamped up some papers where happy memories can be jotted down and captured. I punched the papers with a hole-punch and slung them around the mason jar neck with loose leaf rings from my craft supply stash.
Next, I embellished the jar lids, which is when I decided that I need to work glitter and bling into my life a LOT more often going forward:
And finally, I decorated some gift bags for happy memory jar transport:
These stars were another item from my craft stash. I picked them up years ago at one of my favorite stores, Ten Thousand Villages. I knew I'd eventually find a perfect project for them!
Steven and I have been sticking happy memories in our jar all month (oddly enough, most of them have to do with delicious food we've enjoyed so far this year!).
I hope your new year is off to a very happy start and that 2013 has many wonderful memories in store for you and yours.
This is a lovely idea! I think I'd have a happy memory every time I take a Hershey kiss out of the jar. I'm simple like that! :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annika! It really is a lovely thing for us to have. I actually find myself thinking: "we have to do something happy today so we can add to the jar!" It helps me remember to make time for happy things when I'm all swept up in the grind of daily life.
DeleteThese look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I give all the credit to the glitter. :)
