Steven and I have developed a bit of an owl obsession lately. I think it started when he gave me this darling little guy for Christmas last year.

And tonight, we're heading out to the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site for an "Owl Prowl," where we'll hopefully get a look at some Great Horned Owls and Eastern Screech Owls. In preparation for this evening, I decided to whip up a little owl cross-stitch. I looked to this owl softie that my dear friend Mike gave me for inspiration.

Here are my sketches.

And here he is!

Did you know that a group of owls is called "a parliament?" This makes me picture a bunch of owls sitting around passing laws. Here's hoping we spot one this evening!

  1. Shelly-girl, you rock! Love all the owls. Can't wait to hear about the owl prowl! I hope all is going well and that we get to catch up soon!

  2. Thanks, Jen! The owl prowl was a lot of fun-- we saw a whole bunch (maybe a parliament!) of screech owls. The guides shot a lot of photos, and I'll post them if I can get my hands on them. Let's definitely catch up soon-- I want to hear all about this penguin plunge thing that you guys did!

  3. Shelly, I never in a million years would have learned the term for a group of owls! Thank you. I love it. A parliament of owls!

  4. Hi Shelly
I love your owl cross-stitch, very cute! I have NEVER done counted cross-stitch, I think I'll have to start soon!
Oh and love the wooden owl at the top of the page, very lovely...
As you like owls, I think you might like this picture...
